What is an Ultra 4 Charity event?
Ultra 4 Charity is putting on mini adventure events in exciting locations around the world. They will have different distances to choose from and each event will support a group of charities that are linked by a single cause. You can choose to run or walk these distances and checkpoints will be roughly every 10km.
How do I train for an ultramarathon?
You can follow a normal marathon training guide and this will put you in a good position for the event. Or you can follow our specific event training guides that will be made for each distance and broken down into competitor or completer (coming soon)
Do I have to fundraise?
Yes, all our events are aimed at supporting charities, so the fundraising minimum is compulsory for your place in the event. You can of course choose to pay some of this yourself if you wish.
How do I set up my fundraising page?
Once you register for the event (not just speedy checkout) you will be sent a link from Givestar with your fundraising page. This will already have the four charity partners loaded in. You can personalise your page or share straight away. 100% of fundraising is split equally four ways between the charity partners.
What is included in the entry fee?
Please see the event details for the full list of what is included or not included. The entry fee and fundraising generally cover you for a fully marked course, checkpoints, medical team, therapy team, logistical support, in country transfers, hotels and camping as stated in the event details and your big shiny medal!
What are the payment options?
When you go through to the booking platform, you will have a chose of paying in full or up to four monthly instalments are available up until two months before the event.
Why are the Ultra 4 Charity events so much cheaper and include more than other events available?
U4C is working hard to keep costs as low as possible in order to make these events as accessible to all as we can. The low cost is also why the fundraising minimum is compulsory, as this allows us to charge less. But the safety of the event and the runner/walkers experience will always be our main priorities!
How does the accommodation work?
The hotel rooms are all twin. If you have someone you want to share with, you both need to email us so we can put you together. If you are solo traveling or do not specify a room mate, then you will be placed in a room with another same sex runner/walker.
If you are doing the 100km, you will have a night camping. These are large tents where you just find a space to lay out your mat and sleep.
Do I need travel/runners insurance?
Yes, you need to take out your own personal insurance that covers you for this type of event (i.e ultra marathon trail running in extreme environment)
Options to look at include: ITRA, Dogtag and the British Mountaineering Council.
What footwear should I choose?
We recommend that you go into a running shop and get tested by a professional to find the right shoe for you, then train in this shoe prior to the event. The chose between trail and road shoe is your own. But depending on your experience and the environment, make sure it has the right level of padding for the event distance you are taking on.
Can I volunteer at these events?
Yes, we will take a team of volunteers to work alongside us at the events. This can be a fantastic experience for you, but please be aware they are long days supporting all the runners/walkers. If you would like to join us, please drop us an email.
What can I expect at each checkpoint?
The checkpoints will have at least one medic, one therapist and one volunteer. They will help with any injuries or issues you may be experiencing. There will also be drinking water at each checkpoint and hot water at the campsite for re-hydrating your meals.
What happens if I can’t finish a stage or event?
If you are unable to continue on the event, you will be dropped and held at the nearest checkpoint until a vehicle is available to take you to the finish line. If you are on day one of a two day event, then you can either stay in the campsite as planned or be taken back to the race hotel. However, you will need to sort your own accommodation out for the extra night. If you wish to leave the event early and return to the airport ahead of the organised transfer, then you will need to organise and pay for this yourself.
What do I need to carry during the race?
Please see the full kit list on the event details page.
